Hiking Trail in Tavolara (without Ropes/Klettersteig)
The normal hiking trail of Tavolara don’t reaches ‘Punta Cannone’ (summit: 564 meters) but anyway is a trail that offers stunning views of the island, the sea and coast around it. The circular route of medium difficulty is characterized by a first small part of clear trail but the remaining is stony ground that runs between the steep limestone cliffs and the twisted junipers.
The starting point will be the beach of ‘Spalmatore di Terra’, from here we’ll cross the coast of the island in eastward direction then we’ll climb a small cliff taking a trail that reaches the southern part of Tavolara: ‘Punta la Mandria’. From here the view opens towards the South: we can see the island of Molara and Capo Coda Cavallo. Now we’ll face the hardest part of the hiking approaching a trail that runs into the Mediterranean vegetation sloping and stony. After about a hundred meters of difference in altitude we’ll enjoy a marvelous panorama over the coastal area; every time we’ll stop hiking we’ll watch a different and unique view getting more and more amazing. We are now more sheltered to the huge limestone cliffs that characterized the highest part of the island of Tavolara. Here wilderness is predominant.
The last part of the Hike allows us to reach a wonderful panoramic point that overlook on the beach of ‘Spalmatore di Terra’. Once we’ll make a little break we’ll take another trail that goes back to the the lower part of the island. At this point we’ll end the visit of the island by exploring the western isthmus and the King of Tavolara graveyard.
